Bluefin tuna has been a staple in Mediterranean diets for centuries, thanks to its many health benefits.
It’s high in omega-3 fatty acids.
It’s rich in minerals such as selenium, phosphorus and magnesium, as well as vitamins A, B, B3, B9, B12 and D and is an excellent source of proteins of high biological value.
Bluefin tuna also has a very high selenium content compared to other foods, with amounts of up to 17µg/g. Numerous scientific studies show that selenium is highly beneficial for health; it’s a powerful antioxidant and helps neutralise the harmful effects of mercury, which contrary to popular belief, is found in bluefin tuna in much lower quantities than the legally permitted.
Bluefin tuna has a higher protein content than most types of fish and even many meats, making it ideal for children and people who are physically active.
