Born 22 years ago in Totana (Murcia), Melanie defines herself as a meticulous person who really likes to learn and who works “great” as a team. “Obtaining the scholarship represents a 180-degree turn for me because the studies she had been developing for years did not satisfy me and, honestly, I kept wishing I had an opportunity like the one that has now arisen. I am eager to learn and grow academically and personally,” says Melanie. She is very grateful to Balfegó for this opportunity and she plans to give everything to learn at the MOM Culinary Institute. “I could never imagine that I would be the beneficiary of the scholarship, although if I am honest something in my heart told me yes,” adds Melanie.

As Juan Serrano, general director of Balfegó, explains, “Melanie won us over in the interview among the more than 50 candidates for the 2024 BalfegóWtalent scholarship. She has a great enthusiasm for learning and pursues a personal project with values in the world of restoration. We are sure that the MOM program will be as enriching for her as it has been for Paula, Francina and Jessica, the students who have already enjoyed our WTalent scholarship.”

“I have always said it, my biggest dream is to study cooking and have my own business or work in a catering or a restaurant, that is what my friends and family are tired of hearing. I don’t know what the future will hold for me, but what I do know is that this is the beginning of a very beautiful path.”

The absence of gender parity in the field of haute cuisine and restaurants has been a trigger for the policy of the Balfegó People Department. At the company we actively contribute to equality by providing training of excellence and high-level specialization in the culinary field to young female talents.

The BalfegóWtalent scholarship is part of one of the initiatives of the Balfegó Grup Equality Plan. “What excites us most is seeing how people who have started studies or a professional career in another direction do not miss the opportunity to train and study in a sector that they are passionate about, such as the world of haute cuisine,” says Juan Serrano. , general director of Balfegó. And he adds: We hope that our scholarship, which encourages more applicants every year, continues to make more women say yes to betting on a professional career in the world of haute cuisine.”
