About Chef Balfegó
Chef Balfegó is one of the most renowned culinary competitions in Europe and rewards the country’s best chefs’ work with the world’s best bluefin tuna.
In the past three editions, chefs from all over Spain competed to impress an all-star judging panel. Chair and twelve-Michelin starred chef Martin Berasategui has been joined throughout the years by the likes of Paolo Casagrande (of three-Michelin starred Lasarte), Mario Sandoval (of two-Michelin starred Restaurante Coque) and chef Nacho Manzano (of two-Michelin starred restaurant Casa Marcial).
Throughout the different editions, the contestants have demonstrated their extensive knowledge of Balfegó bluefin tuna by preparing dishes that showcase interpretations of the product never seen before.
European participants (excluding Spain) compete in a semifinal to earn their place in the Grand Final in Madrid, where they will join the four Spanish contestants selected through an internal process.
The final is held at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu school in Madrid and concludes with a gala attended by internationally renowned chefs, gastronomic journalists, and prominent figures from various professional fields.
